It seems like it was only yesterday when Nintendo revealed the DS handheld for the first time. There he was, Reggie Fils-Aime, up on stage unveiling the fact that the DS would rely on touch-screen controls. No one knew what to make of it. Many in the audience moaned in disinterest. But a few years - and several million DS units - later, it seems like the must-have feature in handheld devices...
You may not know Yoji Shinkawa by name, but if you've spent any time in Solid Snake's world, you've more than likely seen his work. An artist by trade, Yoji has gained quite a rep in gaming circles for his stylized designs and art direction for Konami's Metal Gear Solid and Zone of Enders series. Next year, Konami will be paying its respects to Shinkawa and his works during the “The Art of Yoji Shinkawa” exhibit in Tokyo...
Sony is releasing a Patapon 3 demo in Japan which it claims is playable for 100 hours. While we're skeptical, the inclusion of ad hoc and infrastructure multiplayer in the demo helps bolster their claim...
Oh, Final Fantasy XIV, whose dreams won't you destroy? After gamers’ tepid reception of the expensive MMO, publisher Square Enix has reduced its earnings forecasts for the remainder of the fiscal year from 12 billion yen to 1 billion (from about $142 million to $12 million)...

In an age when print is on the run from digital media, Time Magazine and its year-end awards are still noteworthy. The big news today was the publication naming Mark Zuckerberg Person of the Year, because apparently they only heard of Facebook after seeing it in a movie this year, but the periodical also posted their top ten games of the year. And while it’s a fine list, the top slot went to Alan Wake. Seriously?
“I was surprised when I discovered he was still doing this,” said a now-estranged friend, who hasn’t spoken to Pachter since 2007. When asked how Pachter got his start, the source explained, “It was just me and him and a few friends, nothing big. We’d talk about games, make little predictions... a bet here, a bet there, and occasionally he'd be right, or at least close.”
After already putting Final Fantasy I and II out for the PSP, Final Fantasy IV (originally released in the West as FFII) is next on Square Enix's re-release docket...
A new video of a prototype for Sony Ericsson's PlayStation Phone (aka the Zeus Z1) has surfaced, showing you how the device may perform as a gaming platform. According to the Neocore benchmark app, games run at an average of 24.4 frames-per-second. It's a long ways away from the gold standard of 60 frames-per-second, but it's important to take the numbers with a heaping mountain of salt. The software for the device in the video is not final – and the hardware probably isn’t either. Still, it's a nice sneak peak at what you can expect to see as the new smart phone, which is scheduled to launch in March of 2011. Check out the video...
It’s easy to empathize with the plight of the Prinnies. The penguin-like mascots from the Disgaea universe are overworked, underpaid, and poorly dressed. They are also the star of Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood!, the follow-up to last year’s masochistic platformer. That’s why we were excited to see that NIS America decided to throw a Prinny party by releasing a TON of new screenshots and lengthy gameplay videos for the game. Check them out…
